Student Email Accounts FAQ
Your official CSUSB student email account is automatically created when you apply to the University. You can use the CSUSB Web Mail site to log in to your email account:
NOTICE: If you have a pop-up blocker, you may have trouble composing or replying to messages. This is because these functions require a pop-up window. To fix this be sure and add mail.csusb.edu to your allowed pop-ups. Please refer to your pop-up blocker or web browser's help file for more information

What is my CSUSB email address?
A CSUSB email address was generated automatically for you when you applied to the University. Check the acknowledgement letter that you received from Records, Registration & Evaluation. You should see your email address in this general format, 8 characters long:
where "lmnopqr" is the first 7 letters of your last name, and "f" is the first letter of your first name.
NOTE: The automatic creation process may truncate your last name and may insert some numbers into your email address, to avoid duplications. For example, if there are several students named "John Weissmuller" or "Joan Weissmuller", an email address might appear as "email@example.com".
I don't have an acknowledgement letter. Where can I find my email address?
Go to the "Account Search " function on the CSUSB Web Mail page and enter the following information:
- your Last Name
- your First Name
- Then click on the "Search:" button.
Caution! Remember that there may be several other students who have a last name and a first name similar to yours, so several very similar email addresses may be shown as the result of your search.
What if the Account Search function does not show an email address for me?
If you are a student registered with the College of Extended Learning (CEL), please contact CEL at (909) 537-5975.
If you are a regularly-enrolled student and you cannot locate your email address using the "Account Search" function on the CSUSB Web Mail page, then you should immediately contact Records, Registration, & Evaluation at (909) 537-5200.
How can I change my e-mail address?
Your CSUSB email address is part of your official CSUSB student record. As of September 24, 2007, there is no established procedure for changing just your email address. However, should your legal name change, you may bring official documentation as proof of this change to the office of Records, Registration, & Evaluation to have your student records changed to your new name, which may include your CSUSB email address.
What is my email password?
When your CSUSB email address was created, the default (original) password was set to the last 6 digits of your 9-digit Coyote ID number. You should immediately log into the CSUSB Web Mail site and change your password to a secure password that only you know.
How do I change my password?
Please remember that you must choose a secure password. Your password must meet the following criteria:
- Password must be at least 6 characters in length.
- Password must contain a special character that is NOT the first or last character.
To change your password, log into the CSUSB Web Mail site. Then, do the following steps:
- Click on the "Options" button on the top bar.
- Click on the "Password" button on the side bar.
- Type in your old password.
- Type in your new password.
- Type in your new password a second time.
- Click the "Change Password" button.
- Click the "OK" button in the message window.
- Click the "Inbox" button at the top bar to return to your email messages.
I changed my password, but now I don't remember it. What should I do?
If you know your email address, and you have a Coyote OneCard, then you can go to either one of the following locations in the basement of the "Library Wedge" building. Either office can help you to immediately set a new password.

- DCHS Helpdesk, room PL-022, (909) 537-7677.

What if I don't have a Coyote OneCard?
If you are enrolled in an Extended Learning program, or if you are an Open University student, please contact the College of Extended Learning at (909) 537-5975.
If you are a new, regularly-enrolled student, you will need to come to the Coyote OneCard office located in the basement of the Pfau Library (PL-003) to obtain a Coyote OneCard. Your "My Coyote" number and a photo ID are required at time of request.
If you are a continuing, regularly-enrolled student, your new Coyote OneCard has been pre-printed, and is available at the ACM Media Services counter. The Media Services counter is located in room PL-003, in the basement of Pfau Library addition.
