Art, Eats, and Heritage: A Filipinotown Experience
Join us for an enriching day trip to Historic Filipinotown in Los Angeles, designed for students in the YOURS AANHPI (Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander) Student Achievement Program. This excursion offers a unique opportunity to explore the vibrant Filipino culture through stunning murals created by local artists, which depict Filipino-American history, experiences, and contributions to the community.
Students will visit iconic sites such as the Gintong Kasaysayan and Gintong Panama murals, learning about the resilience and strength of Filipino culture and its impact on downtown LA. A highlight of the trip will be a private tour of Gabba Alley, where students can experience various mural art pieces and reflect on how art plays a role in their personal lives and cultures. They will explore how different art forms continue to preserve the traditions, values, and experiences of their histories, families, and personal stories.
The trip will culminate in a culinary experience at a local restaurant, where students can savor traditional Filipino street foods, further immersing themselves in the rich flavors of the culture.
This visit not only celebrates diversity but also deepens students’ understanding of Filipino heritage, aligning perfectly with our program’s mission to promote cultural awareness and appreciation. Don't miss this invaluable opportunity to connect with history, art, and community!
