The Cal State San Bernardino men’s soccer team soccer team will face UC San Diego in the CCAA Tournament semifinals on Friday, Nov. 4, at 1:30 p.m. in Turlock.
The Coyotes advanced after defeating host and No. 4 seed Chico State, 1-0, in the opening round of the tournament on Nov. 1.
No. 5 seed CSUSB, under the direction of interim head coach Darren Leslie, improved its record to 10-5-1 with the victory. The 10 victories are CSUSB’s most in six seasons.
UCSD is the tournament’s No. 1 seed and regular season conference champion. The last time the Coyotes faced the Tritons, CSUSB came away with a 3-1 win on its home Premier Field on Oct. 27.
Friday’s semifinal winner advances to the CCAA Tourney title game on Sunday, Nov. 6, with an NCAA Tournament berth on the line. Sonoma State will face off against Cal State Los Angeles in the other semifinal match.
In related news, the Coyotes are ranked No. 7 in this week’s NCAA West Region poll.
Simon Fraser leads the West Region poll, followed by UC San Diego, Cal Poly Pomona, Dixie State, Cal Baptist, Sonoma State, the Coyotes and Cal State L.A.
The NCAA announces its 38-team NCAA Tournament bracket Nov. 7. The top six teams from the West Region advance to the NCAA Tournament that begins Nov. 10.
