Kevin Grisham, Cal State San Bernardino associate professor of geography and environmental studies and a Middle East expert, gave a presentation on the country of Oman to a group of Inland Empire business leaders considering trade opportunities there, The Sun reported.

Trade representatives from Oman met with Inland Empire businesses interested opportunities in the Middle Eastern nation on May 9 at the San Bernardino International Airport.

The country, according to experts and think tanks, is the most stable in the Middle East, with a highly educated population and a median age of 25, said Grisham.  Oman and the Inland Empire share similar characteristics in physical geography and a connection to history, he said.

Grisham, who lived in neighboring Yemen for two years and visited Oman, encouraged greater connection and potential exchange of students between the two regions in order to better foster future economic partnerships.

“I would say there’s huge potential because (Oman has) inroads into countries we do import and export to,” Grisham said. “I think it’s great with networks to India and China; where they’re strategically located is a nice hub in the greater global geography.”
