The second annual 50/50 Movement event at Cal State San Bernardino, featuring Monica Stockhausen, CEO of NerdyGirlsRock LLC, professor of business at Chaffey College in Rancho Cucamonga, and public speaker, will be held Thursday, May 9, noon to 2 p.m. in the Santos Manuel Student Union. Visit the 50/50 Movement Eventbrite page to register. The CSUSB event is to celebrate 50/50 Day, a free day and global initiative for people to engage in conversation about working toward a more gender-balanced world in all sectors of society, whether in business, politics, culture or the home. For Stockhausen, her focus with NerdyGirlsRock is to end the gender pay gap. “NerdyGirlsRock is Monica’s passion project that speaks to closing the gender pay gap,” her website reads. “She created an online resource and community designed to inspire and empower intellectual ‘nerdy’ women to be confident, skillful and economically independent.” According to Stockhausen’s website, her exposure to socioeconomic issues in underserved communities is what introduced her to the field of social work. As a result of her passion for socioeconomic issues combined with her nonprofit experience, at 24 years old, she accepted an appointment to faculty at Long Island Business Institute in New York City. Stockhausen was also named one of the 30 most influential people under 30 in California’s 47th Congressional District in 2017. In addition to listening to Stockhausen, attendees will view the film “50/50: Rethinking the Past, Present, and Future of Women in Power,” which explores the 10,000 year history of women and power – from setbacks and uprisings, to the bigger context of where we are today. For more information about 50/50 Day, visit the Let it Ripple Film Studio website, the studio that produced the 50/50 Day film.
