Karl Warren Plumlee, 66, former professor of Chemistry and Biochemistry, passed away on February 13, 2016. Born in Richland, Washington in 1949, he earned his B.A. at North Central College in Naperville, IL (Chemistry and Mathematics) and his M.S. and Ph.D. from Northwestern University (Physical Chemistry). He began his career in industry, working for Exxon and W.R. Grace. His work resulted in 22 patents. He retired and began teaching, both part-time at Victor Valley Community College (Mathematics) and full-time at CSUSB (Chemistry). He appeared on American Bandstand and carried the Olympic Torch in Texas in 1984. His musical talents extended to playing five instruments and playing in bands and orchestras. The Apple Valley Library Book Club created a scholarship at Victor Valley Community College to honor his memory and love of education; his wife, Betty, founded the Book Club. He was a loving son, husband, father, stepfather and grandfather.
