Five Cal State San Bernardino students served paid internships with various federal agencies as part of the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU) National Internship Program. The students participated in the program, now in its 27th year, in the fall of 2017, and spring and summer 2018. “This is a great opportunity for our students,” said CSUSB President Tomás D. Morales. “They will learn so much from this work experience, but also have the opportunity to make valuable contacts that will serve them after graduation.” The participating students were:

  • Linda Alsobrooks, senior, business management & operations, Office of the Assistant Secretary for Civil Rights, summer 2018;
  • Helen Martinez, junior, graphic design, National Resources Conservation Service, summer 2018;
  • Kaitlyn Norris, senior, mass communications, Library of Congress, summer 2018;
  • Sarah Arechiga, senior, business – finance; Library of Congress, spring 2018; and
  • Maria Robledo, senior, business – marketing, Substance Abuse & Mental Health Services Administration, fall 2017 and spring 2018.

 The HACU program offers students the opportunity to receive valuable work experience through paid internships at federal agencies and private corporations nationwide. Since 1992, HACU has coordinated more than 13,000 internship placements for students throughout the country. HACU matches a student's career interests, educational background, and previous work or volunteer experience with the needs and demands of federal and corporate partners. Students receive paid round-trip airfare, housing arrangement assistance, emergency medical insurance, and a biweekly stipend, and most attend an intern orientation in Washington, D.C.
