Cal State San Bernardino has taken another step to increase the safety of its students, faculty and staff with the launching of LiveSafe, the world’s leading mobile safety communications platform.

LiveSafe, through its app, provides students, faculty and staff with a direct connection to campus safety so that everyone can easily communicate all their safety needs. LiveSafe allows users to send text, photos, videos and precise location information to report incidents ranging from routine maintenance needs, suspicious activity and safety threats.

LiveSafe, which was co-founded by Kristina Anderson, a survivor of the 2007 Virginia Tech shooting, was created to help colleges and universities prevent, mitigate and address a myriad of incidents on campus including physical safety, sexual assault, mental health (student suicides) and theft.

“Partnering with LiveSafe is part of our ongoing commitment to ensure the safety of our students, faculty and staff,” said Nina Jamsen, CSUSB police chief and the university director of public safety. “In using the LiveSafe app, our CSUSB family will be able to communicate quickly and, in some instances, discreetly, while at the same time the police department will be able to monitor and respond as needed in a timely manner. Remember, if you see something, say something.”

CSUSB is setting up information stations and planning a number of on-campus events to encourage students, faculty and staff to download and use the app.

Other benefits to the LiveSafe app include:

  • Stay anonymous or send your user information and location to CSUSB University Police as soon as you call or message, potentially allowing faster response times or help to someone that may not know their exact location.
  • View helpful Campus Maps that display all campus buildings and walking directions.
  • Activate SafeWalk, a GPS-tagged monitoring feature to let your friends and family keep you covered until you arrive safely to your destination.
  • Receive timely notifications with important safety information from campus safety.
  • Campus resources and contact information at your fingertips, including a campus directory, weather, bus routes, shuttle service, etc.

LiveSafe can be downloaded free from the Apple App Store or Google Play, or at Welcome to LiveSafe! at http://links.livesafemobile.com/CSUSB.
