Cal State San Bernardino will host a symposium, “San Bernardino: A Quest for Understanding,” on Thursday, Oct. 20, at the Santos Manuel Student Union Theatre.
The symposium will be held from noon to 2 p.m.
The Los Angeles Times’ reporting in last year’s feature series, “San Bernardino: Broken City,” garnered heaps of praise and pointed criticism alike from residents when it was published. And for the Times’ coverage of the tragic terrorist attack of Dec. 2, the newspaper garnered a Pulitzer Prize.
“The symposium will allow journalists, CSUSB faculty members and students, and guests to explore journalism's challenges in covering difficult topics and the response of the community to these stories,” said Terry Ballman, dean of the CSUSB College of Arts and Letters.
Bob Sipchen, specialist and Sunday enterprise editor for the L.A. Times, will serve as the moderator for the panel that will feature Paloma Esquivel, staff reporter, L.A. Times; Joe Mozingo, staff reporter, L.A. Times; Rod Metts, associate professor of communication studies, CSUSB; and Mary Texeira, professor of sociology, CSUSB.
Please RSVP to Alicia Corral at atrujill@csusb.edu or (909) 537-3729.
