The National Association of Student Personnel Administrators Foundation has named Brian Haynes, the vice president of the Division of Student Affairs at Cal State San Bernardino as a 2017 Pillar of the Profession.
Haynes, who has led the division since August 2013, is one of 12 leaders from the student affairs and higher education community throughout the country who will be honored with the Pillar of the Profession award for their outstanding contributions to the field of student affairs and the organization.
“I’m truly honored to be named to such an outstanding group of educators dedicated to the success of students in higher education,” Haynes said. “But the award is also a tribute to the commitment and hard work of our Student Affairs Division in serving students and ensuring success.”
Haynes leads a team that provides programs, initiatives and departments supporting the success of CSUSB students, including: Coyote Athletics, Admissions and Student Recruitment; Financial Aid and Scholarships; Registrar; Upward Bound; GEAR UP; Student Health, Counseling and Psychological Services; Career Center; Services to Students with Disabilities; Veterans Success Center; Children’s Center; Student Conduct and Ethical Development; Housing and Residential Education; Santos Manuel Student Union; Orientation and First Year Experience; Student Engagement; Associated Students, Inc.; and Recreational Sports.
Prior to CSUSB, Haynes served as vice president for student affairs at Clayton State University in Georgia. He holds a bachelor’s degree in history from The Ohio State University and has a master’s degree and doctorate in higher education from Ohio University.
This year’s other Pillar of the Profession honorees are:
- Marilyn Amey, department chair of educational administration, Michigan State University;
- Teri Bump, vice president for university relations/student affairs, American Campus Communities;
- Nancy Crimmin, vice president and chief academic and student affairs officer, Becker College;
- John Hoffman, director, Doctor of Educational Leadership Program, California State University Fullerton;
- Frank Lamas, vice president for student affairs, California State University Fresno;
- Harry Le Grande, vice chancellor for Student Affairs, University of California Berkeley;
- Patrick Love, vice president for student affairs, New York Institute of Technology;
- Ellen Neufeldt, vice president for student engagement and enrollment services, Old Dominion University;
- Brett Perozzi, associate vice president for student affairs, Weber State University;
- Judy Sakaki, president, Sonoma State University; and
- Frank Sanchez, president, Rhode Island College.
The new class of Pillars will be honored March 11-15, 2017, at the 2017 NASPA Annual Conference in San Antonio, Texas.
