Cal State San Bernardino’s outstanding academic programs, faculty and services continue to be recognized as the university has once again been listed as one of the top institutions of higher education in the western United States, according to the U.S. News & World Report 2017 rankings.

The national magazine’s annual rankings listed CSUSB 14th among all western regional public institutions and 61st among the best regional universities in the west. U.S. News & World Report’s annual rankings are considered one of the most influential and anticipated recognitions for colleges and universities that provide a full range of undergraduate and master’s degree programs throughout the nation.

“It is gratifying to know that once again Cal State San Bernardino has been listed among the best colleges and universities in the west,” said university President Tomás D. Morales. “It’s an acknowledgment of the exceptional hard work and dedication of CSUSB’s faculty and staff to create an educationally rigorous and stimulating environment where students can succeed.”

The U.S. News & World Report rankings were announced in the 2017 America’s Best Colleges guidebook, which was released online on Sept. 13. The West region includes institutions from 15 states: Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Oregon, Texas, Utah, Washington and Wyoming. The rankings are available at the U.S. News Best Colleges Rankings and Lists website.

The U.S. News rankings focus on academic excellence, with schools ranked up to 16 measures of academic quality. The rankings emphasize outcomes, with graduation and retention rates carrying the most weight in the methodology at 30 percent. The top schools all have high six-year graduation rates and strong freshman retention rates.

California State University, San Bernardino is a preeminent center of intellectual and cultural activity in Inland Southern California. Opened in 1965 and set at the foothills of the beautiful San Bernardino Mountains, the university serves more than 20,000 students each year and graduates about 4,000 students annually.

CSUSB reflects the dynamic diversity of the region and has the most diverse student population of any university in the Inland Empire, and it has the second highest African American and Hispanic enrollments of all public universities in California. More than 80 percent of those who graduate are the first in their families to do so.
