Teachers from across the Inland Empire gathered at Cal State San Bernardino and the CSUSB Palm Desert Campus for a day of networking and learning during the 2nd annual Better Together: California Teachers Summit.
They were part of the 13,000 teachers who signed up to attend the free conference at 38 venues statewide on July 29, linked together by streaming video for keynote speakers actor Ernie Hudson and educator Kelly Gallagher.
Each venue also had TED-styled “EdTalks,” and gave teachers time to meet in smaller “EdCamp” sessions, where they discussed topics of interest such as the California Standards in English/Language Arts and Math and the Next Generation Science Standards.
A unique partnership between the Association of Independent California Colleges and Universities, the California State University and New Teacher Center formed to host the free statewide day of learning.
Teachers were encouraged to continue networking through social media and scheduled “Twitter chats” that include topics such as “Learning from Our Digital Community,” and “Bringing the Summit Back to Your Classroom.”
