About 400 people attended an open house at Cal State San Bernardino’s University Police Department and raised more $1,500 in support of the department’s K-9 program.
A barbecue lunch by Cujo’s Big Smoke BBQ, at $10 per person, provided most of the funds raised in support of the department’s police dog, Chevy.
The open house, held April 29 at the department’s campus headquarters, featured demonstration by area law enforcement agencies, an up-close look at University Police Department’s operations, as well as an opportunity to meet with the department’s officers and staff, and Police Chief Nina Jamsen swearing in the department’s newest officer, James Layugan.
“It was wonderful to see our community come together in support of our department,” Jamsen said. “We will continue to work hard to keep our campus, students, faculty and staff safe.”
Taking part in the event were: Coyote Radio, the California Highway Patrol, the Colton Police Department, the Fontana Police Department, the Inland Valley SWAT team and its vehicles, the Riverside Police Department and members of Riverside Bomb Squad, the San Bernardino Unified School District, the San Bernardino County Auto Theft Task Force and the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department Aviation division.
