Sharon Brown-Welty, dean of the Cal State San Bernardino Palm Desert Campus is now a member of the Palm Desert Rotary Educational Hall of Fame
Brown-Welty, who has been leading the Palm Desert Campus since 2014, was honored along with Joel Kinnamon, president of College of the Desert during The Spirit of the Rotary Hall of Fame Education Luncheon, which raises funds to provide scholarships to high school students who wish to stay in the local community to continue their education; many of whom are first in their family to attend college. Without scholarships, many students would not be able to continue post-high school studies.
The induction took place on March 29.
“Sharon and Joel were recognized for their tireless efforts in providing excellent post-high school education opportunities in the Coachella Valley,” said Ricardo Loretta, member of the Palm Desert Rotary.
Brown-Welty says, “Obtaining a college education is the key to everything: personal growth and accomplishment, understanding and living up to civic responsibility and leadership, and building the economic vitality of the region through and educated workforce.”
The hall of fame is located in the Indian Wells Center Educational Excellence on the CSUSB Palm Desert Campus.
Located in beautiful Palm Desert, the CSUSB Palm Desert Campus offers bachelor and master’s degrees, a doctorate degree in educational leadership, and teacher credentials and certificates.
