The Cal State San Bernardino Santos Manuel Student Union Gamer’s Lounge will host a domestic violence training and clothing drive on Tuesday, April, 12.
“Ladies Night” will be held in the SMSU Gamers Lounge, room 118, from 5-8 p.m.
At 6:30 p.m. there will be a guest speaker from the CSUSB’s Office of Title IX who will discuss dating violence. This portion of the event will count toward the End Sexual Violence Training requirement for the academic school year 2015-2016. The free event is open to the public; daily parking on campus is $6 per vehicle. Free food, crafts, and games will also be provided.
“We wanted to have a special night for our ladies this month,” said Megan Tipple, event coordinator for the SMSU Gamer’s Lounge. “We want to bring our ladies together in a fun and safe environment to learn about domestic violence and its signs so they know how to prevent it. We want our ladies to stand together as strong women and educate our gentlemen on how they can help.”
“Ladies Night” is also an opportunity for CSUSB students to give back to their community. This event is hosting a clothing drive that will donate items to benefit the Option House in San Bernardino, an organization serving victims of domestic violence.
Items that are needed include: baby products, kitchen supplies, gift sets for mothers, feminine hygiene products, good condition clothes, and children’s toys. Each item donated will enter students in a raffle that includes: one $50 Visa gift card, two $25 Visa gift cards, two ASI spirit baskets, and a $100 Amazon gift card provided by the Women’s Resource Center. The sorority with the most participants will receive $100 towards their philanthropy.
Since 1977, Option House has provided a 60-day shelter for safety and counseling. Over the past 32 years, 200 to 300 women and children annually have relied on the shelter for food and clothing, job skills training, court advocacy and parenting classes.
