The wickedly powerful and provocative comedic classic, “Tartuffe,” comes to the popular Indian Wells Theater at Cal State San Bernardino’s Palm Desert Campus on Saturday, Dec. 5, at 8 p.m., and Sunday, Dec. 6, at 2 p.m.

The short three-show run is presented by the CSUSB theatre arts department, which is offering a 'buy-one-ticket-get-one-ticket-free' offer now through Friday, Dec. 4.

Upon its release in 1664, “Tartuffe,” by French playwright Moliere, was the center of great controversy and censorship. It has now been masterfully adapted by David Ball and directed by theatre arts department chair and professor Terry Donovan Smith, making it just as relevant and poignant as the day it first debuted.

When a seemingly pious Tartuffe assimilates himself into the wealthy Orgon family, he gains access to the family’s home, throwing everyone into turmoil. As Orgon falls for the scoundrel’s ruse, Tartuffe’s deceit takes a dangerous turn.

The production was performed at the Cal State San Bernardino campus in late November.

Tickets can be purchased online or by calling the Indian Wells Theater Box Office at (760) 341-6909. Ticket prices are $15 for adults, $12 for Osher Lifelong Learning members, Emeriti Society members, veterans, CSUSB alumni, staff and faculty, and $6 for students and children under 17.
