Cal State San Bernardino communication studies student Amanda Fernandez, broadcast consultant Lacey Kendall and Coyote Radio each received awards at the Inland Empire Media Awards held at the Mission Inn in Riverside recently.

The Oct. 15 ceremony was sponsored by the American Advertising Federation and individual awards honored recipients for service to their community and industry. Fernandez, Kendall and Coyote Radio are from the College of Arts and Letters at CSUSB.

“I’m so proud of our extraordinary students, staff, and Coyote Radio,” said Terry Ballman, dean of College of Arts and Letters.

Fernandez, of Rancho Cucamonga, won 'Best Student Media Representative.' She was honored for her relentless work as student operations manager at Coyote Radio, supervisor and mentor to students working in that department, and public relations assistant to the Grammy Award-winning Avila family — all while maintaining a high grade point average, and secretly fighting life-threatening lupus and undergoing painful chemotherapy treatments. Fernandez is majoring in communication studies with a focus on public relations.

CSUSB broadcast media consultant and Coyote Radio manager Lacey Kendall, of Twin Peaks, received 'Media Talent of The Year.' Kendall was honored for her 30 years of service as a Southern California broadcaster, manager, educator, and for her service to a multitude of youth-oriented charities, civic and professional media organizations. Kendall is also host of a popular program on KCAL FM 96.7.

Coyote Radio was the recipient of the 'College Media Outlet of the Year.' The radio station was honored as an innovative learning laboratory for students, for its internship program that has helped hundreds of CSUSB students find employment in the media, and for its production of environment and community oriented radio programs such as 'My Awesome Empire,' and 'Isla Earth.'

CSUSB received more nominations and awards than any other media company or higher education institution. Coyote Advertising manager Jacob Poore and the student-produced television program 'Local Matters' were also nominees for awards.
