Cal State San Bernardino’s online Master of Social Work program was ranked No. 9 in the nation by Social Work Guide, a leading career- and education-focused online resource that provides comprehensive information about social work degree programs, careers and licensing requirements in the United States. The CSUSB online MSW program, which is housed in the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences, was listed behind No. 1 Florida State University, and was the top-ranked California institution, ahead of No. 16 University of Southern California, No. 36 Cal State Northridge, and No. 46 Brandman University.Rafik Mohamed, dean of CSUSB’s College of Social and Behavioral Sciences, credits much of this achievement to the faculty.“They are skilled practitioners, strong scholars, and excellent teachers for whom student learning is their top priority,” said Mohamed. “The faculty and program leadership constantly seek to enhance the online learning environment, and they strive to ensure that our students have a high-quality online experience comparable to that they would have in a face-to-face environment.”The rankings are based on factors measuring academic excellence, student experience and support, and graduate success. Social Work Guide’s methodology considers the average tuition cost per online credit hour; graduation rate; the percentage of tenured faculty; and school rankings in US News & World Report’s regional, national and best social work program categories.Social Work Guide selects programs that are not-for-profit, accredited from the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE), and accredited by one of the six accreditation agencies recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.“Regional accreditation is a crucial factor as it is a widely recognized marker of quality education, a prerequisite for federal financial aid, and frequently a requirement for transferring credits between institutions,” the Social Work Guide website reads.CSUSB’s online MSW program is modeled after the on-campus one and is similarly designed to be completed in three years. It also allows students to complete field placements in their local area.“Our School of Social Work and our online MSW program epitomize the excellence in education that we strive to achieve on a daily basis in the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences and at CSUSB,” said Mohamed. To learn more about CSUSB’s online MSW program, visit the School of Social Work website. To see the full list of rankings and for more information about each selected program, visit the Social Work Guide website.
