The fourth annual Better Together: California Teachers Summit, set for Friday, July 27, will feature internationally acclaimed expert on creativity Sir Ken Robinson, and will be hosted by Cal State San Bernardino, the CSUSB Palm Desert Campus and other venues throughout the state.The summit will take place from 8:45 a.m.-12:30 p.m. statewide. In the San Bernardino area, CSUSB’s College of Education will host the event at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel, 285 E. Hospitality Lane in San Bernardino. In the Coachella Valley, the CSUSB Palm Desert Campus will be the host venue.Registration is available online through Eventbrite at Better Together: California Teachers Summit at CSU San Bernardino and Better Together: California Teachers Summit at CSU San Bernardino, Palm Desert Campus.Please note that while registration is closed for the San Bernardino venue, educators may place their names on a waitlist should spots open up.Statewide, organizers say the summit is on track to bring in 10,000 educators.With the theme “It’s Personal: Meeting the Needs of Every Student,” the summit will feature: 

  • A keynote address by Sir Ken Robinson, which will be livestreamed from the headquarters at Cal State Fullerton to all 31 sites;
  • TED-style EdTalks presented by local teachers around this year’s new theme; and
  • Edcamp-style discussions on relevant topics, such as building student agency, personalizing learning with or without technology and tailoring lessons in different subject areas. 

Robinson is an internationally acclaimed expert on creativity and innovation and author of “Finding Your Element,” “The Element: How Finding Your Passion Changes Everything” and “Out of Our Minds.” His TED talk on developing an education system that nurtures creativity holds the illustrious title of “most popular TED talk of all time.”A teacher, writer, researcher and adviser, Robinson will speak about the need for a learning revolution. He will make the case for a radical shift in education — from standardizing learning to personalizing learning — so that all students’ natural talents can flourish.The summit is free and open to all California pre-K-12 teachers, teacher candidates, school administrators and other educators, such as instructional assistants, school psychologists and school librarians. 0.5 Continuing Education Units will be available at the cost of $27.50. Information on how to obtain these units will be provided the day of the event.The summit annually brings together new and seasoned educators together at more than 30 locations across the state to strengthen their network, share resources and experience what it looks like to personalize learning for themselves. Personalized learning helps teachers meet the needs of all students.
