Citing it as being responsive to the needs of the inland region, the College of Education at Cal State San Bernardino received reaccreditation by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing.

The reaccreditation, which is good for seven years for CSUSB and its Palm Desert Campus, includes commission staff recommendations that allow the university to propose new educator preparation programs for approval by the committee on accreditation and continuing its assigned cohort on the schedule of accreditation activities.

The committee noted “the past several years have been times of tremendous change for the College of Education and California State University, San Bernardino. Throughout this time, the unit has continued to offer credential programs that the community has noted are responsive to their areas of need.”

“I am proud of our College of Education faculty and staff for their hard work and determination to provide the best programs that will not only benefit our students, but ultimately the schools we serve and their students,” said CSUSB Provost Shari McMahan.

Jay Fiene, dean of the College of Education, said, “The CTC reaccreditation is a strong indicator of our college’s dedication and ongoing success in creating and offering innovative programs that develop and nurture innovative and enthusiastic educators who in turn will inspire and help their students to excel.”

In April, 10 members of the commission visited CSUSB for four days and conducted more than 830 interviews with credential candidates, graduates, employers of CSUSB alumni, advisory board members, as well as faculty and staff.

Interviews with regional employers and others involved in improvement efforts for the Inland Empire reported that they were actively involved with the college regarding educator preparation programs.

The report indicated that a word stakeholders used many times as they shared about their work with the College of Education was “responsive.” There is a trust that the concerns of those in the PK-12 community will be heard and that the College of Education will work in a collaborative and cooperative way with them to address the concerns, according to the report.

Prior to their campus visit, the accreditation team had access for 60 days to the accreditation website that included: the university catalog, the COE dean’s report, common standards report and addendum, field experience logs, course syllabi, survey data, advisement documents, fieldwork, handbooks, faculty vitae, follow-up survey results, course matrices, college review feedback and the college budget plan.

The CSUSB College of Education is home to an extensive educator preparation program, including six different teaching credentials, 16 master’s programs and a doctoral program in educational leadership.
