Cal State San Bernardino’s 48th Annual Student Art Exhibition will feature artwork from the next generation of emerging Inland Empire artists. Original CSUSB student artwork will be on display at the Robert and Frances Fullerton Museum of Art (RAFFMA) from June 18–July 31. An awards ceremony was held on  June 15, followed by a public reception.

Art students have been hard at work all year preparing for the highly competitive exhibition, which boasts an average 30 percent acceptance rate. The exhibition, a collaboration between RAFFMA and the CSUSB Department of Art, demonstrates the art department’s focus on developing emerging artists and designers who are professional, technically skilled, conceptually astute and innovative. RAFFMA’s galleries will be filled with a variety of media, subjects, approaches and styles that express a wide range of ideas about traditional and contemporary art.

This year, Shana Nys Dambrot was selected by faculty in the Department of Art to serve as the exhibition juror. Dambrot is an art critic, curator and author based in Downtown Los Angeles. She is the arts editor for the LA Weekly, and a contributor to Whitehot Magazine, KCET’s Artbound, Flaunt, Fabrik, Art and Cake, Artillery, Palm Springs Life, Riot Material, West Hollywood Lifestyle, Jenkem, and Porter & Sail.

She studied art history at Vassar College in New York, writes essays for books and exhibition catalogs, curates and juries a few exhibitions each year. Dambrot is a dedicated Instagram photographer, author of experimental short fiction, and speaks at galleries, schools and cultural institutions nationally. She sits on the boards of Art Share-LA, the Venice Institute of Contemporary Art, the Advisory Council of Building Bridges Art Exchange, and the Brain Trust of Some Serious Business.

The Robert and Frances Fullerton Museum of Art is a nationally recognized museum accredited by the American Alliance of Museums. The only accredited art museum in San Bernardino, RAFFMA has accumulated a permanent collection of nearly 1,200 objects focusing on Egyptian antiquities, ceramics and contemporary art. Located at Cal State San Bernardino, RAFFMA houses the largest permanent and public display of Egyptian art in Southern California.

General admission to the museum is free. Suggested donation is $3. Parking at Cal State San Bernardino is $6 per vehicle and $3 on weekends.
