Cal State San Bernardino’s part-time MBA program and its graduate programs in social work and public affairs have been ranked among the top graduate studies programs in the country, according to U.S. News & World Report 2019 rankings of graduate schools.

The part-time MBA program, which is housed in the CSUSB Jack H. Brown College of Business and Public Administration, was ranked 133 out of 206 programs. Seven other institutions were also listed as 133.

The U.S. News & World Report Part-Time MBA ranking was based on five factors: average peer assessment score (50 percent of the overall score); average GMAT score and GRE scores of part-time MBA students entering in the fall of 2017 (15 percent); average undergraduate grade point average (12.5 percent); average number of years of work experience (10 percent); and the percentage of the fall 2017 total MBA program enrollment that is in the part-time MBA program (12.5 percent).

The CSUSB social work program was listed 128 out of 220 colleges and universities, and tied with 18 other institutions. The program is housed in the School of Social Work in the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences.

All the U.S. News & World Report’s health rankings, including social work, were based solely on the results of peer assessment surveys sent to deans, other administrators and/or faculty at accredited degree programs or schools in each discipline. U.S. News conducted a survey for one discipline in fall 2017 for the ranking calculated and published in 2018: 251 Master of Social Work Programs accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of the Council on Social Work Education.

The public affairs ranking listed CSUSB and its public administration department as 108 and tied with 14 other colleges and universities in its rankings of 155 institutions. The public administration department is housed in the Brown College.

The rankings of public affairs programs, completed in 2018, were based solely on peer assessment survey results. In fall 2017, U.S. News surveyed deans, directors and department chairs representing 282 master’s programs in public affairs and administration.

Two surveys were sent to each school. The lists of schools, individuals surveyed and specialty areas evaluated were provided by the Network of Schools of Public Policy, Affairs and Administration, known as NASPAA, and the Association for Public Policy Analysis and Management.  

U.S. News & World Report’s annual rankings are considered one of the most influential and anticipated recognitions for colleges and universities that provide a full range of undergraduate and master’s degree programs throughout the nation.

In September, U.S. News & World Report again recognized CSUSB among the top universities in the western United States for its outstanding academic programs, faculty, staff and services. Those recognitions included:

  • 16th among top public regional universities in the West;
  • 63rd among the best regional universities in the West;
  • 31st among the best value regional universities in the West;
  • 103rd in engineering programs at universities that don’t offer a doctorate degree; and
  • 290th in best undergraduate business programs.
