A photo exhibition and lecture by photographer, lawyer, community activist and spouse of a veteran, Jo Arlow, will kick off the Office of Community Engagement’s Ethics Lecture Series on Monday, Oct. 16.

The event begins with a reception at 4:30 p.m., followed by the lecture at 5 p.m., at the Faculty Center for Excellence, located in the John M. Pfau Library, room PL-4005. The event is free and open to the public; parking at the university is $6.

Arlow’s talk will illustrate how innovative programs, including farming, are promoting the well-being of veterans in the Pacific Northwest, along with their successful reintegration and healing.

Community gardens have been useful tools to develop communities, to sustain cultural practices, and to support a variety of community priorities. Organizers of the lecture are inviting people to attend and participate in the conversation on all levels — from veteran issues specifically to community strategies — which include community gardens more broadly.
