Michal Kohout, a Cal State San Bernardino professor of geography and environmental studies, will speak on “Where Is Europe Heading?” when the university’s Phi Beta Delta-Gamma Lambda Chapter hosts its spring faculty luncheon on Wednesday, April 26.
The luncheon will begin at noon in the Pine Room of the university’s Lower Commons. Cost is $20 for faculty and staff, and $5 for students. Please RSVP to Rika Dawson at rdawson@csusb.edu by Monday, April 24.
The refugee crisis, Brexit, resurgent right-wing populism and other topics that have been in the headlines seem to be undermining stability on the European continent, and reversing its process of unification. Yet these crises are part of a long-term struggle over the European welfare state.
Kohout’s talk will examine the challenges facing Europe, and look to a way forward that “must be a left turn to European socialism: an inclusive democratic process safeguarding solidarity and cohesiveness.”
The luncheon is sponsored by the Center for International Studies and Programs, the Fulbright Scholar Program, the College of Extended Learning and the CSUSB Department of Geography and Environmental Studies.
