The Coyote Radio and Advertising department at Cal State San Bernardino has secured a syndication partnership with a new radio broadcast outlet: KQLH 92.5 FM/KQLH.COM in Yucaipa.

'This partnership will include weekly broadcasts of our national award-winning ‘My Awesome Empire’ radio program, produced entirely by CSUSB students,' said Lacey Kendall, broadcast and media consultant to the CSUSB College of Arts and Letters, which oversees the program’s production.

The partnership brings the total radio outlets carrying the program to eight stations, including Coyote Radio at CSUSB (coyoteradio.csusb.edu), NPR Affiliate KVCR 91.9FM, NBC News Radio Affiliate KCAA AM 1050, KCAA FM 102.3, KCAA 106.5 FM, KMET Smart Talk 1490, iTunes Radio Worldwide and now KQLH 92.5, Kendall said.

Jacob Poore, Coyote Radio advertising manager, called the partnership “a win for our students and our campus. These partnerships also allow us to insert advertising or promotional pieces within commercial breaks in the program, and engage our students in hands on media internship experiences.”

“My Awesome Empire” has been in production since 2012. The program, which has featured more than 400 Southern California residents, highlights the most heroic and innovative people, businesses, programs and children in the inland region.

The program is produced by graduate and undergraduate students from all of the colleges at CSUSB. “My Awesome Empire” has been featured in Inland Empire Magazine and is the 2016 recipient of 'Best Radio or Television Program' by the American Advertising Federation-Inland Empire.

The program won two national awards in 2015 for 'Best American Public Affairs Radio Program,' including a national Golden Mic Award, and a nomination for a major Hollywood entertainment award.

It is again a finalist for this year's national Golden Mic Award for Best Public Affairs show, to be announced in March.

'No other program in the Inland Empire is carried by so many stations,” said Terry Ballman, dean of the College of Arts and Letters. “I think the greatest part of having such a successful show on so many stations is that more people are hearing our talented students each week, than are hearing the number one morning show on local commercial radio.'

KQLH-Yucaipa went live for the first time in mid-January. It is one of 900 community radio stations granted new licenses to broadcast, in a rare move by the FCC begun in 2013.

'KQLH is a nonprofit organization, formed for community service as well as the listening enjoyment and exposure of jazz, and mid-20th century adult standard music,' said Mark Westwood, KQLH chief operating officer and 30-year Inland Empire broadcast veteran.

“My Awesome Empire” debuted on KQLH on Feb. 12, and can be heard on the station every Sunday at noon.
