The John M. Pfau Library at Cal State San Bernardino will host Mayra Salazar, director of programs at The Dominguez Dream, who will deliver a non-profit themed presentation, “Do What You Love,” on Wednesday, Feb. 8.
The free presentation, which is open to the public, will be from noon to 1 p.m. in Pfau Library room PL-5005. Parking at CSUSB is $6.
Founded by Doreen C. Dominguez, who serves as chairman of the Vanir Group of Companies, The Dominguez Dream is a locally based, non-profit organization dedicated to partnering with area schools in underserved communities by promoting student achievement in math, science, language arts and engineering.
Salazar has more than a decade of non-profit experience, with a focus on education and underserved communities. She has worked at both the local and international levels targeting educational disparities for immigrants and first-generation college students.
“This will be a great learning opportunity for CSUSB students who plan to pursue careers in the non-profit sector and other related fields,” said Cesar Caballero, dean of the Pfau Library. “Non-profit organizations are expanding nationally and globally to address pressing social, environmental and healthcare issues, creating thousands upon thousands of exciting career opportunities in which to contribute professionally to causes that advance our collective humanity.”
CSUSB entrepreneurial student Kelly Mendez, a senior who is participating in an internship program at The Dominguez Dream, said that she has benefited enormously from the experience.
“In addition to honing important skills, such as marketing, event planning, media relations, and fundraising, I’ve also gained greater career insight and confidence, which I feel will provide an advantage when applying and interviewing for professional positions as graduation approaches,” Mendez said.
“For students interested in learning more about the non-profit world, I would recommend attending this presentation and looking into internship opportunities at The Dominguez Dream,” she added.
