More than 1,200 eighth grade students from the Ontario-Montclair School District visited Cal State San Bernardino during the month of September as part of the Promise Scholars program.

CSUSB’s Campus Visitor Services and Events office in Admissions and Student Recruitment partnered with the Promise Scholars program to show the eighth-graders what life is like on campus and what the university has to offer them.

After the students were greeted by Cody the Coyote, the groups of students participated in a variety of activities, including a campus tour, scavenger hunt, natural science workshop and entrepreneurship workshop.

According to the Promise Scholars website, the Ontario-Montclair Schools Foundation is the convening nonprofit that coordinates Promise Scholars.

“The Foundation’s mission is to help children achieve their college and career dreams,” the website says. “We accomplish this through the Promise Scholars programs which works to ensure all students in the community have access to an education after high school.”

CSUSB was one of the first to sign a “Promise” agreement in 2011. Since then, the initiative’s capacity has grown to serve more than 20,000 K-12 students and 1,000 parents per year.
