A wind-driven vegetation fire erupted early Thursday morning along Highway 18 in San Bernardino, prompting mandatory and voluntary evacuations as the blaze burned 105 acres Thursday, officials said.
The blaze was burning approximately five miles from the Cal State San Bernardino campus, which is closed Thursday.

Nearly 20,000 Southern California Edison customers across the Southland were without power Thursday as the utility preemptively shut off electricity to reduce the risk of fire.
The 'public safety power shutoff' is aimed at lowering the threat of blazes erupting amid windy and arid conditions, SCE said.
Cal State San Bernardino was closed Thursday in light of the high winds, fire danger and possible power outage. Campus officials will decide later in the day whether to remain closed Friday, when similar conditions are expected. The latest campus alerts can be found here.

A brush fire that broke out early this morning in the foothills of the San Bernardino Mountains has burned roughly 75 acres and forced mandatory evacuations.
The Old Water Fire was reported about 2 a.m. Thursday and is burning on the northern edge of the city of San Bernardino near Arrowhead Springs Road.
Nearby Cal State University San Bernardino had preemptively closed its campus for Thursday due to the high winds and prime fire conditions.

Cal State San Bernardino’s classes and business operations will be shuttered Thursday, Oct. 24, in anticipation of high winds and a possible Southern California Edison electricity shutoff to reduce the possibility of power lines starting wildfires.

Southern California Edison is warning it could cut power to 308,000 customers in seven counties to prevent winds from damaging electrical equipment and starting wildfires.
The utility nearly doubled its estimate of the number of homes and businesses that might lose electricity as a pre-emptive measure.
Cal State San Bernardino has already said it was canceling Thursday's classes due to the power shutoff threat. The university has yet to make a determination for Friday's classes.
