More than 1,100 students participated in Cal State San Bernardino’s 19th December commencement during three graduation ceremonies at the university’s 3,200-seat Coussoulis Arena on Dec. 7.
The first ceremony was at 9 a.m. for the College of Arts & Letters and the College of Natural Sciences. The second ceremony at 1 p.m. was for the College of Social & Behavioral Sciences. The final ceremony at 5 p.m. was for the Jack H. Brown College of Business & Public Administration and the College of Education.
CSUSB President Tomás D. Morales congratulated the Class of 2019, urging them to be passionate in everything they do and seek relevance in their careers and in their lives.
“During your time at CSUSB, you have been encouraged to get involved, to see beyond your own life to the needs and challenges of those around you. Resolve to incorporate service into your life. You will find supporting others will provide a personal contentment nothing else can match,” Morales said. “Strive to inspire and be inspired every day. Be sure to make time to enjoy, to laugh, to explore and to feel. There is a big difference between being alive and truly living.
“Realize that success is not accurately measured in dollars, possessions or status,” Morales said. “It is best gauged in terms of personal satisfaction, fulfillment and pride of accomplishment, none of which can be attained by sitting back and letting life come to you.”
The December commencement has grown in popularity especially with out-of-state and international students who have completed their studies in the fall and are likely unable to return for the traditional June graduation, which usually averages about 3,000 graduating students.
