“Augie’s Pop of Kindness Day,” held to honor the legacy of kindness that Augie Hartung emulated, looked different this year, as restrictions surrounding the coronavirus continue to limit staff exposure to the campus.
However, the Cal State San Bernardino Staff Council was able to set up six locations, including at the Palm Desert Campus, with decorated ice pop grab-and-go stations.
One campus community member said, “It sure is hot out here, but I’ll make the trek for a Popsicle.”
The Staff Council hosted a special edition “Pop of Kindness Staff Chat” on Zoom, where campus community members came together to talk about the idea of kindness and how they show their gratitude. Augie’s family was in attendance at the Staff Chat and shared his ideals and stories about his willingness to help others.
Augie served as associate director of Facilities Services from 2001-2006 and exemplified the concept of caring and service through his thoughtful acts, such as handing out ice pops on hot days.
Fully 110 ice pops were given out at all six locations, and many staff members sent photos of themselves with ice pops as they celebrated.
Organizers of “Augie’s Pop of Kindness Day” said, “We look forward to being in person next year and sharing love and kindness with all staff on campus.”
