CSUSB professor discusses Nov. 27 killing of Iranian nuclear scientist and its implications

David Yaghoubian, CSUSB professor of history, discussed in an interview Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif’s statements regarding the potential role of regional nations in the assassination of Mohsen Fakhrizadeh, regarded as one of Iran’s top nuclear scientists. Fakhrizadeh was killed just outside of Tehran on Nov. 27. Zarif said an “anti-Iran psychological operation” by Saudi Arabia, Israel and the United States led up to the killing.
Yaghoubian pointed to meetings between U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman not long before Nov. 27. He said one of the outcomes was to “enable Benjamin Netanyahu to spread the blame around for this heinous murder of Mohsen Fakhrizadeh. So by meeting so recently with Mohammed bin Salman, the Saudis are also implicated, as they should be.”
