Cal State San Bernardino will celebrate its Class of 2020 commencement in real time as more than 1,200 students from the San Bernardino and Palm Desert campuses will be honored in four virtual ceremonies on Saturday, Dec. 12.
The ceremonies will be held virtually, with no on-site event, because of the COVID-19 pandemic. They will be the first held this year as the June commencement was postponed due to pandemic restrictions. Those graduating Saturday include students who planned to participate in the June 2020 commencement ceremonies.
Each ceremony will be in held in real time.
The ceremonies will be at:
- 8 a.m. – College of Social and Behavioral Sciences with 411 undergraduates and 15 graduate students expected to participate;
- 10 a.m. – College of Arts & Letters, College of Education with 197 undergraduates, 52 graduate students and eight doctoral students expected to participate;
- Noon – Jack H. Brown College of Business and Public Administration with 220 undergraduate and 62 graduate students expected to participate; and
- 2 p.m. – College of Natural Sciences with 261 undergraduates and 11 graduate students expected to participate.
Each ceremony will feature a speech by CSUSB President Tomás Morales, Provost Shari McMahan and the dean of that particular college.
The ceremony will then recognize each of the graduates who will be called out individually. Each of the participating students were asked to supply an image of themselves to display when their names are called out.
Graduates who participate in the virtual ceremonies will also be invited to participate in-person when the university returns to that format.
President Morales will offer up closing remarks for the graduates.
