CSUSB Office of Student Engagement hosts 2021 Social Justice Summit

The Cal State San Bernardino Office of Student Engagement will hold its annual Social Justice Summit virtually on Tuesday and Thurdsay, April 6 and 8, featuring speakers Ericka Hart, an activist and sexuality educator, and Tarana Burke, founder of the #MeToo movement.

The participatory talk acts as an educational resource for allies, organizations, and individuals working with and/or on behalf of marginalized communities seeking to deepen both their professional and personal practices toward centering those who navigate society from its margins.

At 3-4 p.m Tuesday, April 6, Hart will present “Racial and Social Justice 101.”Register at the Racial and Social Justice 101 registration website.

On Thursday, April 8, from 5-6 p.m., Hart returns for “In Conversation with Erika Hart.” Register the Conversation with Ericka Hart registration website

Hart will galvanize audiences to explore their own biases, share in their experiences of identity and offer actionable steps on how each individual can integrate a social and racial justice ethic in their own lives for a more equitable and just world in this crash course on systems of oppression.

Hart, a black queer femme activist, writer, highly-acclaimed speaker, and award-winning sexuality educator with a master’s of education in human sexuality from Widener University. Hart’s work broke ground when she went topless showing her double mastectomy scars in public in 2016. Since then, she has been in demand at colleges and universities across the country, featured in countless digital and print publications such as Vogue, The Washington Post, Allure, Harper’s Bazaar, VICE, PAPER Mag, BBC News, Cosmopolitan, Vanity Fair, W Magazine, Glamour, Elle, and Essence.

Burke is best known for founding the “Me Too” Movement and has dedicated her life to social justice work and giving strength to those who experienced sexual trauma or harassment. Burke was honored as one of The Silence Breakers, named TIME's 2017 Person of the Year, and named to TIME's "100 Most Influential People of 2018. Years before “Me Too” became a viral hashtag, Burke founded Just Be Inc., a non-profit that helps victims.

The CSUSB Office of Student Engagement supports an inclusive student life environment by offering social and co-curricular opportunities that foster student involvement and build affinity to California State University, San Bernardino. OSE supports students who want to expand their educational experience and leadership skills. OSE advises more than 150 unique student clubs and organizations. OSE also houses the National Student Exchange program, which allows students to experience up to a year at another university within the U.S. and Canada.  OSE is the one-stop shop for engagement and involvement at CSUSB.  We are committed to bridging the curricular and co-curricular experiences of all students, leading to their holistic development and graduation from CSUSB.
