The Jack H. Brown College Office of Academic Equity and the Women’s Leadership Collaborative will present a virtual dialogue focusing on “Leadership in Higher Education: A Women’s Perspective” at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 28.

Three panelists will talk about their higher education journeys, what prompted them to consider leadership opportunities, how they pursued their goals and what are the pitfalls and delights in leadership – past and present.

The panelists are:

  • Jenny Darroch, dean of the Farmer School of Business, Miami University, Ohio. Prior to joining Miami University, Darroch served as the dean of the Peter F. Drucker and Masatoshi Ito Graduate School of Management at Claremont Graduate University in Claremont, California. She earned her doctorate in marketing from the University of Otago in New Zealand.
  • Mary A. Papazian, president, San Jose State University, California. Papazian is also a professor of English at San Jose State. Since arriving there in 2016, Papazian has remained focused on strengthening communication among campus leaders, students, faculty and staff. She has been energizing alumni, supporters and friends of the university, as well as elevating engagement with elected, industry and community leaders on important regional policy issues such as affordable housing, transportation and economic opportunity that are critically relevant to an urban university. Papazian received her B.A., M.A. and Ph.D. in English literature from UCLA.
  • Astrid Sheil, dean of the School of Business, Shenandoah University, Virginia. Sheil joined Shenandoah University as the new dean of the School of Business on July 1, 2019. She is the sixth dean of the business school and the first woman to serve in the role. She was previously the Dean’s Fellow for Program Outreach and Promotion and a tenured professor of communication and business at Cal State San Bernardino. She brings more than 25 years of business and academic experience to the position of dean. She received her B.S. in foreign service from Georgetown University, M.S. in communication from the University of Tennessee and Ph.D. in organizational communication from the University of Tennessee.
