CSUSB hosts virtual conversation discussing anti-Asian racism

“Essential Conversations: Anti-Asian Racism,” a virtual conversation to discuss the exploitation of the COVID-19 pandemic spurring violence, harassment and racism against Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) communities will be held on Monday, May 3.

The talk will be held via Zoom from 6-8 p.m. and is being held by the Cal State San Bernardino Jack H. Brown College of Business and Public Administration’s Office of Academic Equity in collaboration with the San Bernardino Community College District.

Jacob Chacko, associate director of Diversity and Inclusion for the Santos Manuel Student Union at CSUSB, along with Sunny Lin, president of the university’s Asian Faculty, Staff, and Student Association and the operating systems analyst/data architect of Information Security at CSUSB, will each share more about cross-cultural barriers, responding to anti-Asian racism and other aspects to build safer communities. A campus and community share of personal experiences with racism, bias and discrimination will follow along with discussion.

The talk is open to the public and organized with the hopes of raising awareness about the continued struggles of these communities, which many CSUSB students, staff and faculty are part of, along with impacts on the community in general. The presentation echoes CSUSB’s commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion and strongly condemn racially-motivated intimidation, bullying, microaggressions, harassment, and verbal and physical attacks against individuals.
