CSUSB professor discusses latest developments in the demolition of Palestinian homes in East Jerusalem
Press TV
Oct. 4, 2021

Ahlam Muhtaseb, CSUSB professor of communication studies, was interviewed for a segment on the demolition of Palestinian homes, one ostensibly because it lacked an Israeli building permit, in the Beit Hanina neighborhood of East Jerusalem, also known as East Al-Quds. A United Nations report said nearly 100 Palestinians have been displaced since August as a result of similar incidents, the segment reported. Also, the U.N and other international organizations have reported that required permits "are nearly impossible for Palestinians to obtain."

Muhtaseb said, “At the end of the day, it’s a process, a systematic process, by Israel to kick out as many Palestinians as possible out of their land and homes and property – basically steal it in the light of the day – and give it to Jewish citizens of Israel.”

She also discussed the issue of a group Palestinian prisoners who are on a hunger strike in protest of being held on administrative detention.

Riverside County sheriff’s membership with Oath Keepers is extremely problematic, says CSUSB professor (starts around 17:45)

Brian Levin, CSUSB criminal justice professor and director of the Center for the Study of Hate and Extremism, was referenced in a conversation about Chad Bianco, Riverside County sheriff who paid a year-long membership with Oath Keepers in 2014, an extremist, anti-government militia organization.

“The organization, from its inception, is the second Amendment insurrectionists’ entity and it has gotten increasingly more radical,” Levin said. He argued that for the sheriff to be defending the organization today when he is in the position of enforcing the law is extremely problematic and said that it represents a crisis for the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.

CSUSB professor responds to Riverside County sheriff’s affiliation with extremist group

Riverside County Sheriff Chad Bianco was a dues-paying member of the Oath Keepers in 2014, an affiliation he acknowledges and makes no apologies for despite the group’s reputation as a militia of anti-government extremists.

Brian Levin, a criminal justice professor and director of Cal State San Bernardino’s Center for the Study of Hate and Extremism, called Bianco’s affiliation with Oath Keepers of “monumental significance.”

“This is the highest ranking law enforcement executive among the largest agencies to be tied to this militant insurrectionist group,” Levin said.

Bianco’s statements about antifa, Black Lives Matter and the FBI, so incensed Levin that he resigned Tuesday from the Inland Empire Terrorism Early Warning Group, which includes the Riverside County and San Bernardino County sheriff’s departments. Levin, a former New York City police officer, was a member for more than 15 years. The group, composed of civilians and law enforcement officials, coordinates regional planned responses to terrorist attacks.

Although Levin said he has not been active in the group for years, he said he will no longer remain a member while Bianco is sheriff in Riverside County.
