Anthony Silard, associate professor of public administration, wrote the sixth installment of his eight-part series on the idea of convenience and how it has affected interpersonal relationships. His column this week was on “More Depth, Please: Nurturing Friendships in the Digital Age.”
In this column, Silard’s key points include: the effects of rampant individualism are accentuated by the internet; when you meet someone it seems you connect with, pause and talk with them for a while; and it is important to find the right balance in pursuing convenience or connection.

CSUSB professor participates in panel discussion on actor Jussie Smollett’s conviction

Brian Levin, director of Cal State San Bernardino’s Center for the Study of Hate and Extremism, was one of the guests on “Crime Stories with Nancy Grace” for a segment on the trial of actor Jussie Smollett, who was found guilty of disorderly conducted related to faking a hate crime on himself in January 2019 in Chicago.
Smollett was convicted on Dec. 10 of five out of the six counts of felony disorderly conduct for making false reports to Chicago police in January 2019. Smollett’s attorney says he is certain that the actor will be vindicated on appeal. Sentencing is set for after the first of the year.
