Cal State San Bernardino earned a Silver Seal from the ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge for nonpartisan student voter participation efforts in the 2020 presidential election. Earning silver means CSUSB had a student voting rate between 60 and 69 percent.

“Even during a pandemic, our Coyotes came together as a community to make their voices heard,” said Diane Podolske, director of the Office of Community Engagement. “Clearly our students are debunking the idea that college students don’t vote and instead are actively engaged in local, state and national issues. It is our goal that we continue to increase our student participation and receive the Gold Seal rating (70%-80% voter participation) in the next presidential election cycle.”

CSUSB received a Gold Seal from the ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge for the 2018 midterm election with a student voting rate between 40 and 49 percent. CSUSB was also listed among America’s Best Colleges for Student Voting by Washington Monthly, named the best college in California for civic engagement by Intelligent.com, and recognized as a campus with the most creative approach to registering students to vote in the 2020 Ballot Bowl competition developed by the California Students Vote Project.

The ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge is a national awards program that recognizes colleges and universities for their commitment to increasing student voting rates. The challenge encourages higher education institutions to help students form the habits of active and informed citizenship, make democratic participation a core value on their campus, and cultivate generations of engaged citizens who are essential to a healthy democracy.
