Cal State San Bernardino was granted the maximum 10-year reaffirmation accreditation from the Western Association of Schools and Colleges Senior College and University Commission, which praised the university for its actions and policies, including its Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) governance model.

In a letter to CSUSB President Tomás D. Morales, Jamienne S. Studley, president of the WASC Senior College and University Commission (WSCUC), said the accreditation was renewed after consideration of the report of the review team that visited CSUSB on Sept. 22-24, 2021. The commission also reviewed the institutional report and exhibits submitted by CSUSB prior to the onsite review.

Studley’s letter commended the university for its work and accomplishments in a number of areas that included:

  • The university’s DEI governance model, which it called “highly inclusive and reflects a genuine commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion as part of the emerging fabric of the institution.”
  • Student advisors across the university collaborating in powerful ways to consistently provide a full range of support that contributes to student success.
  • The thoughtful and intentional way in which Information Technology Services and Institutional Research teams envisioned, planned, and built systems and platforms in support of student success and in response to the global pandemic.
  • Allocating resources for initiatives such as DEI, the Quarter to Semester transformation, and the development of a culture of assessment that demonstrates the level of institutional commitment required for successful implementation of these overarching strategic goals.
  • Creating a culture of continuous improvement by breaking down silos and working together across the university.
  • Developing a meaningful and substantive student-centered focus across multiple departments and programs.

“This is wonderful news and well-deserved recognition of the hard work and determination of our campus community to make Cal State San Bernardino a leading institutions of higher education,” Morales said. “I would like to give a special thanks to Dr. Clare Weber, our deputy provost and vice provost for academic programs, for her great work serving as our accreditation liaison officer.”

In accordance with the WSCUC Commission policy, a copy of Studley’s letter will be sent to the chair of the CSU Governing Board and also to the CSU Chancellor.
