Jodie Ullman, CSUSB professor psychology, honored with lifetime achievement award

Cal State San Bernardino professor of psychology Jodie Ullman was recently honored with the Western Psychological Association’s (WPA) Lifetime Achievement Award, which recognizes the lifetime of outstanding achievements in teaching, research and professional involvement by a WPA member.

"I'm so honored to receive this award; it just seems unreal! It is a wonderful recognition of my professional accomplishments," Ullman said. "I look at past awardees and feel so privileged to be a part of the group. My colleagues in the psychology department and the university have always been incredibly supportive. I could not have achieved this honor without all of their support and encouragement throughout the years. I believe that when any one of us succeeds, we all succeed, so I share this award with them!"

Ullman, a quantitative psychologist who earned her Ph.D. in measurement and psychometrics from UCLA, has been a professor of psychology at CSUSB for 26 years.

Marc Robinson, CSUSB assistant professor of history, named a Mellon Emerging Faculty Leader

Marc Robinson, CSUSB assistant professor of history, is one of 10 scholars named as a member of the 2022 class of Mellon Emerging Faculty Leaders, which supports junior faculty whose research focuses on contemporary American history, politics, culture, and society, and who are committed to the creation of an inclusive campus community for underrepresented students and scholars.

Funded by the Mellon Foundation, the MEFL Awards support junior faculty whose research focuses on contemporary American history, politics, culture, and society, and who are committed to the creation of an inclusive campus community for underrepresented students and scholars.

"It was both the promise of Marc's research and the way he's become an early-career campus leader who's committed to mentoring students, to building bridges, to serving the institution in a way that makes everyone feel more included," said Frances Hannan, director of multimedia projects for the Institute for Citizens & Scholars. "The MEFL Award emphasizes early-career leaders who are 'triple threats' in research, teaching, and campus engagement/leadership, and the selectors felt that he was really a model of that standard, deeply committed to his students and colleagues.”

French instructor named CSUSB’s 2021-22 Outstanding Lecturer

Valérie Morgan, who has been an instructor of French at Cal State San Bernardino since 2003, was praised for her work as she was surprised with the news that she had been named the university's Outstanding Lecturer for 2021-22.

Morgan, who was teaching a class on May 11, was startled when CSUSB President Tomás D. Morales entered the room accompanied by more than a dozen faculty colleagues, previous outstanding faculty winners, staff and university administrators.

CSUSB anthropology museum to host symposium on 'Developing Afro-Latinx Infused Curriculum'

The Anthropology Museum at Cal State San Bernardino will host "Developing Afro-Latinx Infused Curriculum," a bilingual teaching symposium for educators, focused on infusing Afro-Latinx content into K-12 teaching, from 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. on Thursday, May 24, in-person and virtually.

The symposium "is part of a larger project to prepare an exhibit focused on Afro-Mexico and Afro-Latinx experiences in the Inland Empire," said Arianna Huhn, associate professor of anthropology and director of the museum. "The CSUSB Anthropology Museum has been working on this project for almost a year, including 16 students preparing exhibition content through a service-learning course, and three students who will be conducting interviews this summer for the Inland Empire portion of the exhibit. There are four communities in Mexico who are also curating their own components. We anticipate an opening date of September 2023."
