Brian Levin, director of CSUSB’s Center for the Study of Hate and Extremism, was quoted in an article about a state task force’s initial report that says California should take steps to repay Black people who were forcibly removed from their homes for public projects, eliminate unnecessary employment barriers for those with criminal records and prevent redistricting from diluting Black votes.

The report included incidents of systemic discrimination and violent acts aimed at Black residents throughout the state’s history. For example, Inland Empire was also thick with KKK members a century ago, Levin wrote in an email. Riverside County was a political and social Klan stronghold in the early to mid-20th century, the report said.
