Ahlam Muhtaseb, a professor of media studies at California State University, San Bernardino, was quoted in an article about the Biden administration’s Middle East policies as President Joe Biden visited Israel and Saudi Arabia, and how those policies affect Palestinians. Muhtaseb pointed out that "nothing has hurt Palestinians and the Palestinian struggle more than normalization with Arab and Muslim countries." It has effectively nullified the Arab Peace Initiative, first unveiled in 2002, in which all 22 states in the Arab League offered peace and normalized relations with Israel in exchange for the creation of a Palestinian state, with its capital in East Jerusalem, and Israel's withdrawal from all the territories it has occupied since 1967.
