U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona will participate in the White House Initiative Latino Regional Economic Summit at California State University, San Bernardino on Thursday, Nov. 17.
The White House Initiative on Advancing Educational Equity, Excellence and Economic Opportunity for Hispanics and the Aspen Institute will host the summit, which will be from 8:30 a.m.-1 p.m. at the university’s Santos Manuel Student Union North.
The White House Initiative Latino Economic Summit in San Bernardino is the sixth and final in a series of events that began in March in San Antonio. Together, through these forums, the Biden-Harris Administration and the Aspen Institute have highlighted the Administration’s commitment to advancing equity and economic empowerment and connected local Latino community members directly with federal leaders and resources.
Leaders from seven federal agencies will lead workshops, including: the U.S. Department of Agriculture, U.S. Department of Education, U.S. Department of Energy, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, U.S. Department of Housing, National Science Foundation, and U.S. Small Business Administration.
Joining Cardona at CSUSB will be U.S. Department of Energy Deputy Secretary David Turk and other Biden-Harris Administration senior officials and California leaders, including Rep. Pete Aguilar, D-San Bernardino, who will provide virtual remarks at the summit. Cardona will also share remarks at the summit, then participate in a fireside chat with Domenika Lynch, executive director of the Aspen Institute Latinos and Society Program .
The summit’s themes will focus on:
- Inland Empire regions that have suffered the most in California because of the pandemic and are in dire need of resources and plan for economic recovery. The government, the private sector, and the philanthropic sector have an important role to play here.
- The Inland Empire has the potential of leading the charge on the decarbonization of the logistics industry given the role it plays on trade.
President Joe Biden and his administration know that America’s future prosperity and global leadership are tied to the success of Latino families and communities. Through the American Rescue Plan, Bi-partisan Infrastructure law, Inflation Reduction Act, executive orders and Administrative actions, the Biden-Harris Administration is making historic investments in the Latino community from federal contracting to workforce development.
Attend the summit to learn more about how you can better leverage federal partnerships and mobilize the Latino community toward historic federal resources designed to advance equity and help the nation build back better. By coming together across race, place and sectors, the nation’s residents can collectively build a brighter future in which all businesses, families, workers and students can thrive – including the more than 60 million Latinos in the U.S.
