Joanne Whitlock, assistant professor of aerospace studies in Air Force ROTC program at Cal State San Bernardino, was a forensic investigator in the Washington, D.C./Northern Virginia area before she followed her family’s legacy and embarked on her military career.
She completed Air Force Officer Training School in 2013 and commissioned as a second lieutenant. As a logistics readiness officer, she has deployed to the Middle East and Africa and has been stationed at various locations across the U.S.

The Azerbaijan State News Agency noted in a news report that Ahlam Muhtaseb (media studies) was one of the panelists for a program, “Shaping Public Opinion: Digital Islamophobia,” at a recent conference, “Embracing Diversity: Tackling Islamophobia in 2024” held in Baku, Azerbaijan.

An Axios review of data from the Center for the Study of Hate and Extremism at California State University, San Bernardino, found that since 2016 hate crimes against Latinos spiked during various news events involving them or after comments made by Donald Trump. For example, anti-Latino hate crimes skyrocketed by more than 50% in July 2018 from the previous month, at the height of the Trump administration's family separation policy at the border.
"We've seen a correlation between brazen, anti-Latino immigrant rhetoric and anti-Latino hate crimes in recent years," Brian Levin, the recently retired director of the Center for the Study of Hate and Extremism, tells Axios.
