CSUSB professor discusses how climate change may affect wildfires

Claire Todd, a professor and chair of geological sciences at Cal State San Bernardino, was one of the experts who drew a line between climate change and recent wildfires. “Recent scientific research has shown that we can expect wildfires in California to happen more often, and to burn a larger area — changes we’ve already seen in recent decades that are caused by increased air temperature and drier conditions,” Todd said.

Mahmood Nikbakhtzadeh, CSUSB assistant professor of environmental health science, along with CSUSB alumna Maira Lazaro (’24, biology) and Cal Poly Pomona student Daniel Alcerro, were highlighted by the Pacific Southwest Center of Excellence in Vector-Borne Diseases for their work over the summer researching vectors and vector-borne diseases with a training grant from PacVec.
