Cal State San Bernardino has launched Coyote Jumpstart, a cross-divisional collaboration designed to support incoming first-year and transfer students during the pivotal summer months between high school graduation or community college completion and the start of their first semester at CSUSB. The program is part of CSUSB’s MELT Prevention initiative, which aims to reduce “summer melt,” a national trend where admitted students do not enroll in college due to preventable barriers.
Led by the Division of Student Affairs, with support from Academic Affairs and Strategic Enrollment Management and Marketing, Coyote Jumpstart connects students with personalized outreach and guidance through key enrollment steps to help ensure a smooth transition to CSUSB.
As part of the program, two major in-person events and on-going engagement with an online platform will offer students and their families opportunities to prepare for the college experience:
PackCraft: Building your future block by block
July 24 | 5 p.m.
This interactive event encourages students to mine their interests, craft their goals, and build their college journey. Students and families will explore career pathways, financial literacy and campus opportunities through engaging, hands-on activities. Additionally, it will feature a campus hiring event and a screening of the family-friendly film, “A Minecraft Movie.”The Campus Job Fair will be offered to introduce incoming freshmen and transfer students to the many rewarding on-campus employment opportunities available for the upcoming academic year.
Taking place in the Santos Manuel Student Union (SMSU) South Lobby, the Campus Job Fair offers students the chance to:
- Meet face-to-face with campus employers
- Explore a wide variety of part-time positions
- Participate in on-the-spot job interviews
- Receive conditional offers of employment
If your unit is still hiring students for fall 2025 and would like to participate in the Campus Job Fair, please contact Mary Robles at mary.robles@csusb.edu.
- Coyote First Crawl: Faculty, friends and first steps
August 14 | 12 p.m.
This dynamic welcome event introduces students to campus life, academic expectations and social connections. The event will feature student panels and social mixers. To further support the transition, students will also enjoy a free lunch with faculty, offering a relaxed and welcoming setting to connect with professors before the semester begins.
- Goosechase 2.0
Launched during this summer’s new student orientation programs, Goosechase, a dynamic and interactive platform designed to support college readiness and campus engagement among incoming freshmen and transfer students, provided students with an opportunity to connect with CSUSB information and resources to support their transition to the university. Similarly, Goosechase 2.0, the post-orientation iteration of this effort, delivers an immersive experience that combines fun, exploration and learning through digital scavenger hunts and interactive missions. Students are encouraged to engage with key campus resources, connect with peer communities, and practice essential college success skills in a gamified environment.
Coyote Jumpstart reflects CSUSB’s commitment to student success before their first day on campus. For more information, contact the Division of Student Affairs at studentaffairs@csusb.edu or 909-537-5185.
