Cal State San Bernardino welcomed its newest international students at the iCoyote 101 International Student Orientation, an event designed to support their transition to campus life and living in the U.S.
Hosted by the College of Extended and Global Education, the orientation helped students navigate their academic journey at CSUSB while adjusting to a new cultural environment. At the event, attendees learned about university policies and procedures, academic requirements, and campus resources — all tailored to support the unique needs of international students.
This year, approximately 80 students attended the orientation. They participated in sessions covering graduation requirements, health insurance benefits, and strategies for maintaining immigration status. Students also met with academic advisors, international student advisors, and international ambassadors.
The orientation, held Aug. 22, featured breakout sessions customized for various student groups, ranging from exchange students to International Extension Program participants. Additionally, some sessions were led by key campus departments, such as Academic Success & Undergraduate Advising and the Office of Graduate Studies.
A highlight of the event was the resource fair, where students connected with representatives from campus departments and learned about services available to them at CSUSB. A fun “passport” activity encouraged students to visit multiple booths, ask questions and collect “visa stamps.” Students who completed their passports were entered into a drawing to win one of five prizes.
Attendees also joined CSUSB staff, faculty and students for lunch at Coyote Commons to connect, build friendships, and form a supportive community on campus.
In addition to the in-person event, students complete an online component, which consist of viewing orientation videos covering important information about CSUSB and immigration.
iCoyote 101 will return in the spring for newly admitted international students. For more information, visit the College of Extended and Global Education website.
