Cal State San Bernardino has been recognized among the nation’s most environmentally responsible colleges, earning a spot in The Princeton Review’s 2026 Guide to Green Colleges. The recognition highlights CSUSB’s ongoing commitment to sustainability and its efforts to create a campus culture rooted in environmental responsibility and stewardship.

The Princeton Review selected schools for the guide based on its 2024-25 survey of college administrators about their institutions’ sustainability-related policies, practices and programs, as well as student feedback on their campus experiences. More than 25 data points were considered in determining each school’s Green Rating — a score ranging from 60 to 99.

CSUSB received a Green Rating of 99, the highest possible score. Among the 388 colleges featured in the 2026 edition, only 37 schools earned this distinction. The guide includes 322 institutions in the United States, 33 in Canada, and 33 in 16 other countries.

CSUSB was also one of 16 California State University campuses featured in the guide. Other CSU campuses recognized include Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, Cal Poly Humboldt, Cal Poly Pomona, Cal State Channel Islands, Cal State Chico, Cal State Dominguez Hills, Cal State Fresno, Cal State Fullerton, Cal State Long Beach, Cal State Los Angeles, Cal State Monterey Bay, Cal State Northridge, Cal State Sacramento, Cal State San Marcos, and Cal State Stanislaus.

The Princeton Review’s Green Rating measures how well colleges support healthy and sustainable campus lifestyles, prepare students for careers in a green economy, and implement environmentally responsible policies and practices.
