Cal State San Bernardino will be the site of the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese Spring 2026 Conference, set for Saturday, April 25, in the Faculty Center for Excellence, room PL-4005, in the John M. Pfau Library.
The theme of the conference, hosted by the College of Arts and Letters, is “Inclusive Pedagogies: Activism, Identity and Social Justice.”
Check-in begins at 9 a.m. Registration, which can be done online, is free; parking at the university is $10, and lunch can be purchased for $20 ($15 for students).
Sessions will be in Spanish, English, and Portuguese.
Rosa Martha Zárate Macías, a community organizer, activist and singer-songwriter, will give the keynote presentation. Originally from Guadalajara, Mexico, the retired primary education teacher and former Catholic nun emigrated to the U.S. in 1966, and has been an advocate for migrant workers since 1972, when she began working with the United Farm Workers. She is the founder of the San Bernardino-based Calpulli LDP Project.
