“The doctoral program was amazing,” said Erika Tejeda, CSUSB Ed.D. alumna and principal at Liberty High School in Perris, Calif. “The relationships that I built during the program, the strength that I was able to gather from my peers and my mentors and the instructors.... Born and raised in Mexico, Pablo Gutierrez embarked on a journey to the United States to pursue the American Dream, encountering obstacles and opportunities that have shaped his educational and professional path.
Education is considered a female-dominated field, however, an Education Week article noted, “Education is largely powered by women, but in the rooms where big decisions are made …, the power brokers are often male.”
The Holmes Scholars Program supports racially and ethnically diverse students pursuing graduate degrees in education to be future faculty in institutions of higher education. The goal of the program is to provide mentorship, peer support and professional development opportunities to scholars.

The celebration, part of the Homecoming Week festivities, will give graduates of the university’s Educational Leadership Doctoral Program a chance to reconnect with each other and with the CSUSB community. It will take place from noon-3 p.m. at the Santos Manuel Student Union, Room 106B.
The two-part webinar series, to be held Oct. 5 and 12, is a collaboration between the Institute for Child Development and Family Relations at CSUSB and San Bernardino County Superintendent of Schools.
Douglas Simpson, a recognized expert in ethics and a professor of education, is meeting with CSUSB Ed.D. candidates during their four-week course, Ethical Leadership and Decision-Making in Education. He is co-leading/teaching the class with Jacqueline Romano, a CSUSB assistant professor of education.
